01E Unarmed Security Officer Core Subjects

01E Unarmed Security Officer Core Subjects An "Unarmed Security Officer" means a natural person who performs the function of observation, detection, reporting, or notification of appropriate authorities or designated agents regarding persons or property on the premises he is contracted to protect, and who does not carry or have access to a firearm in the performance of his duties." (Source: DCJS Administrative Code 6 VAC 20-171-10)

Hours of Training: 19 (18 hours of classroom per DCJS guidelines and one hour for administration and examination.)
Curriculum:
Course Time: 18 Hours
  1. Orientation - 2 hours
    • Virginia Law and Regulations
    • Code of Ethics
    • General Duties and Responsibilities
  2. Law - 4 hours
  3. Security Patrol, Access Control, and Communications - 2 hours
  4. Documentation - 4 hours
  5. Emergency Procedures - 4 hours
  6. Confrontation Management - 2 hours

To register in the state of Virginia as an Unarmed Security Officer, you must meet the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice guidelines, satisfactorily complete the 01E course (or 01I for In-Service registrants) with a grade of 70% or greater and submit the appropriate DCJS fees and forms which will be explained during the administration portion of the course.
